Kim Marie McWilliams is a kind friend of mine. McWilliams, since the passing of my mother, has helped me a lot by driving me around and overall just being there for me. She is a loving mother to three daughters; some of you may recognize Sam and Naya Veltrie. She is also hoping that with the start of this shop, she will be able to raise awareness for those affected by domestic violence.

McWilliams said, “Prior to moving to Three Rivers, I owned a full-service farm and about ten years ago I added one type of goat’s milk soap to my farmer’s market table. It quickly expanded into its own full-time business, and when I moved here two and a half years ago, I retired the farm and kept just the soap business.” Currently McWilliams sells her products at the Indoor Winter Market in Kalamazoo every Saturday as well as online. The best way to get in touch with her is through her Three Rivers Soap Company Facebook page. But don’t fret, soon McWilliams is hoping to open up a shop in February or March in the downtown Three Rivers area along Main Street or Portage Ave. Her products are very affordable, starting off with $4.00 per bar of soap.

Kim offers “over 100 different kinds of Goat’s Milk Soaps along with luxurious lotions, body butters, all-natural lip balms, and many other fun products.” She makes all her products from the basement of her home. McWilliams said she uses “a variety of different soaping techniques in my soap workshop, and I personally hand-make, package, and label each individual product I have with lots of care!” Kim incorporates “the best possible natural ingredients as the basis of my products, then from there, I add a variety of essential oils, natural mics, flavoring oils, or fragrance oils. Every product I sell has the ingredients right on the label, so if a customer is allergic or sensitive to anything, he can make the best choice for his needs.” But if that isn’t enough to meet his needs or wants McWilliams also offers “personalized service so each individual customer can have a soap tailored to him based on their skin care needs along with his personal likes and dislikes. I take this unique service just a step further by offering a free service for customers to design his own soap and tell his story along with the product he creates.” She would also like to add, “Every single person is special and unique, and this is a great way for individuals to express creativity and tell his story, possibly helping inspire others in the process.”

Every great story must start with a tragic event, correct? McWilliam’s story has no exceptions. Before moving to Michigan, she was domestically abused. Violent or aggressive behavior within the home typically involves the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. Due to her experiences with domestic violence, McWilliams hopes to help raise awareness for the problem. She states, “…so I will be donating portion of the profits from the store to agencies dedicated to helping educate and positively impact the lives of those affected by domestic abuse.” So come on over to Kim Marie McWilliams’s soap shop to not only meet the amazing woman, but to help a great cause and a unique business.
