When having an intelligent conversation about the solar system with seemingly intelligent strangers, all hope of making new friends is lost when someone says “Pluto isn’t even a real planet. It’s too small!” After giving a compelling argument as to why Pluto is indeed, a planet, I exit, go home, and watch space documentaries. (Yes, I actually do this.)

When did size become a determining factor to define something? Humans come in all different shapes and sizes, yet we’re all human and no one seems to argue otherwise. Here’s a quick fact about Pluto just for you: Pluto has five moons: Charon, Hydra, Styx, Nix, and Kerberos. Yes, I too realized that they all sound like rare Pokemon names. Meanwhile, there are human abnormalities such as a second nose, webbed toes, and even tails; these people, although they deviate from the norm, are still humans! According to NASA, Pluto is very cold and temperatures can get down to -387 degrees Fahrenheit. To compare Pluto to humans, some can be very cold-hearted, such as the White Witch in Narnia. Both cold and cold hearts share a common bond; it’s terrible to be around them. So although Pluto may not be like other planets and humans may not be like other humans, he is still and we are still, by all terms, a planet and people.

It’s common knowledge that scientists are thinking of reinstating Pluto with its “planetary” title once again. I’d say scientists are Indian-givers. I mean, take a look at poor little Pluto. After his discovery in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh, he was finally put into the same group as the Big Dogs in our Solar System, or the planets that are closest to home that everyone knows about, such as Mars or Saturn. But as soon as he starts to think he’s a real planet, scientists just take that away. It’s not fair to Pluto. Once a president is inaugurated, people can’t just take his title away all willy nilly; they have to go through a long process and the president would’ve had to do something worth getting impeached for. Pluto didn’t do anything to be degraded to a dwarf planet and lose the title of the “Ninth Planet in the Solar System.” He was just being his small, cold self. Scientists need to reinstate Pluto as one of the nine main planets and make that title unable to be taken away.

Planet “X” a planet that scientists and astronomers aren’t even sure exists, has taken Pluto’s title as Planet nine. This so called Planet “X” could prove to disastrous to Earth if it is indeed real. Tell me why we’re giving this life threatening, possibly made up planet, the title that Pluto, a REAL planet, that poses no threat to humanity, isn’t given? It makes no sense to me.

Pluto, small and cold, was wrongly demoted to a dwarf planet and stripped of its title as the ninth planet in our solar system. By all definitions, Pluto is a planet and we need to end planetary discrimination once and for all.
