The Wildcat Marching Band’s season has come to an end, and they have traded in their marching uniforms for the tuxes, which is a sign that concert and pep band season are finally here. Right after the band finishes with the Kalamazoo holiday parade, they go right to concert mode and focus on the annual holiday concert where the concert and symphony bands play together. This year the band played “Ukrainian Bell Carol,” “Minor Alterations,” and for the grand finale “Christmas on Broadway” which the choral program joined them and sung as the band played.
As concert season starts, familiar tunes can be heard coming from the gym during the basketball games, the sound coming from none other than the Wildcat Pep Band. “This year we welcomed in 18 eighth graders for them to be able to experience the fun and joys of pep band,” said band director Mr. VanToll. The majority of the pep band is made up of students from the marching band. The pep band plays over 24 different songs that keep the players and the crowd fired up during the game. “I enjoy doing pep band because it is fun, and it exposes you to new things,” said junior Kaitlin Ritchie. Pep band is all about having fun and playing crowd favorites during any break in the game. The pep band can be easily found at both boys and girls, JV and Varsity home games, keeping the crowd and the players excited.
